Three Qualities Of A Good Student
There are many qualities to being a good student but these are the three that are most important. Firstly you need to be a good time keeper. Secondly you need to be able to have good academic skills in order to keep up with the work and to obtain good grades. Thirdly you need to have a passion for the subject that you are studying.
Time keeping has to be one of the most important skills any student needs to learn because in further education you become the master of your own time other than being told what to do and when. Keeping accurate timing includes things such as:
- Keeping up with all reading
- Handing assignments in time
- Doing tasks on time
- Turning up to lectures on time
It may sound simple but a lack of good time keeping can lead to a student being behind in their work and their reading.
Having good academic skills is essential to be able to get good grades and to continue to get good grades while you are studying. Good academic skills include:
- Reading skills both skim reading and slow focused reading
- Good note taking skills and taking down only the necessary
- Good grammar and spelling to get written work looking professional
- Not being afraid to ask for help if you get stuck on something
- Asking questions in and out of class
If you feel that you are lacking on any of these skills or just need some advice on how to brush up then your tutor is there to help. At the end of the day your tutor wants you to succeed as much as you do and will do what they can to help.
Without passion, the course can soon become boring and you are less likely to produce the results you need to succeed. When picking a course make sure that it is a subject that interests you and you feel passionate toward in order to succeed.
Yes there are many skills a student needs to be able to get good grades and to keep getting good grades but the most important ones are time keeping, good application and knowledge of academic skills as well as having a passion for the subject you are studying. In addition to skills it is also necessary to be able to know when to ask for extra help.
